When Overwhelm Creeps In

The spiral down of pure overwhelm.

You’ve taken so much onto your plate that you are constantly feeling pulled in a million directions, yet you are accomplishing nothing at the same time. Or maybe you are paralyzed by such a massive list that you don’t even know which direction to go first.

We live in a world where we see everyone’s daily highlight reel, but so few behind the scenes real life that we feel like we’re falling. So we add more pressure to our list to get it together and wonder why our life is such a mess.

If you’re there-you aren’t alone. I get caught up in the spiral too.

Let’s start by just taking a deep breath and letting me remind you that you do not have to do it all. In fact, you don’t have to do any of it. Jesus is here right beside you asking you to let go of the heavy backpack you’ve been carrying. The weight of shame, guilt, people-pleasing, perfectionism, (insert what’s weighing you down)…..he’s here offering you an outstretched hand to take it away.

If only it were that simple, right? We know we don’t have to carry it all and yet we still do. I’m going to give you a little task to try if your life feels overwhelmed and out of alignment.

Step 1: take 30 seconds and write out the MOST important things to you in your life. These things should come to mind easily! Ready, set, GO!!

Step 2: Now take about 90 seconds and write down where you have spent the most physical and emotional time this last week. Where have you “been”?

Step 3: Compare the lists—is where you’re spending your time matching what matters most to you? If not, you’re out of alignment.

When you’re out of alignment nothing feels right. You can be crossing off your to-do list, gaining financial freedom, cleaning the house, driving the car, and still feel empty inside.

Here’s my challenge for you this week-start saying NO to the things that don’t align with your top values in life. See if you can simplify your list just a little bit and take away things that aren’t helping you grow more in the relationships that you want to have. Here’s a hint-put Jesus at the top of that list and see how everything else starts to flow with so much ease.

God created us to live in a way that whatever we do only benefits others. Then sin entered the world and we became broken. Our goal is to find ourselves in places where what we are doing is benefiting everyone, how can you live more like that this week?

Here’s a prayer to help you: God, I feel so many weights bringing me down and I’m tired of carrying them. I have been living and finding my worth in so many things outside of you and the people who matter most in my life. Help me to slow down and know that I don’t have to do it all. I want to live my life for you and the purpose you created me for. Jesus thank you for your grace and patience with me. Today I’m leaning into you and your strength! Amen.
