We just spent an amazing week visiting Indian Shores in Florida. We traveled with my parents and enjoyed a quiet/unplugged week together. Vacations are certainly different with little ones, but it was SO nice to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.
After growing my business for over 4 years I’ve finally started to find that even IF what you do is something you absolutely love, you need time away. In my first few years of business, I thought I couldn’t unplug and that I had to be on 24/7 to grow. Truthfully, I was excited to do my work and didn’t want to stop.
So let me remind you, even if you LOVE your work, you still need downtime. Your work should help you find meaning in life and be something you enjoy, but it shouldn’t be your whole life. If you love what you do you also want to be able to do this for the rest of your life and not experience burnout.
If you are new to business or have even been in it a bit, take a scheduled rest day. I try to find one full day a week where I am unplugged and make it a point to have several weeks off during the year just like I would if I had a “regular” 9-5 job. I always find myself so refreshed and better equipped to serve my people when I do this.
Taking a rest day from workouts or your work will not set you back, if anything, it will help you go farther!
If you are struggling with taking time off, maybe now is the time to think about why? What are you afraid of happening if you take a day off? Are you someone who needs to let go of striving and lean into simply serving and letting the results happen as they should?
One of my vacation reads has been “Holy Hustle” by Crystal Stine. If you are finding yourself struggling to rest, I highly recommend adding it to your list!
